"When I got back to England the one Crown Imperial bulb I put in last autumn was in full swing, in all its crazy magnificence. Like a plant with a bad hair day! I was inspired to sketch it. That led me to think about plant portraits differently. Not set back in the frame so you can see it all, as in previous designs, but larger than life and blown up. Zooming in!"
