Tiger Rug

Designer Candace Bahouth

Tiger rugs woven in the workshops of Gyantse, near Llasa, were a Tibetan tradition dating back hundreds of years. Depicting either the whole pelt, like Candace's, or tiger stripes they were associated with Buddhist meditation and were popular gifts to monasteries. Tiger motifs appear in Khotan rugs to the north but Tiger rugs like Candace's are Tibetan and deeply connected to Tibetan culture.

Candace Bahouth's tapestries are the balanced work of a true artist, whether it's her medieval patterns with their glorious borders or her stunning series based on the paintings of Gustav Klimt. Relatively few colours are used in these kits. They are quick to stitch and look good in any setting.
