"Shells have always been one of my favourite decorative themes" says Kaffe. "As a young painter I did several compositions of pale shells and eggs and was amazed at how many reflected colours played in their shadows." The faded patterns found on shells have always intrigued Kaffe and shells have been a constant in all areas of his design over the years. "It takes me back to my childhood on Californian beaches where I made sandcastles and used shells and pebbles to decorate bas-relief statues in the sand."
