White Cranes Panel

$750.00

Designer Victoria and Albert Museum

This design is based on a detail of a Japanese fukusa with a design of cranes, which are a symbol of longevity. Traditionally in Japan, gifts were placed in a box on a tray, over which a fukusa was draped. The choice of a fukusa appropriate to the occasion was an important part of the gift-giving ritual. The dramatic imagery of the birds with their sweeping lines, set against the midnight background, is an arresting image and makes a wonderful needlepoint panel.
